From squares to rectangles: on photography, and the interface between houseplants and interiors

You’ll know if you have followed me for a while that plants are not my one single ‘passion project’…they have always had to partner up with interiors and my love of design. For this post I wanted to have a bit of a chat about the process of photographing for Instagram and some of my…

HPH plant styling commission Part 4 : the finished installation and the power of women project

For the final part of this mini series about the plant styling project at Newton House, I wanted to share some photographs of the finished design, and also share some details about the parallel installation I created in the conservatory to tie in with the 2018 theme set by the National Trust; the power of…

HPH plant styling commission Part 3 : the installation

The third part in this series focuses on the ‘fun’ bit… the plant installation! As the plants were slowly accumulating in the hall of my apartment, huddling together in groups alongside a growing tower of pots and trays and compost, I realised I’d need to transport everything in a van. I did have photos of…

HPH plant styling commission Part 2: Planning and plant purchasing

For the next part in this mini series, I wanted to share some of the design process after my initial visit to Newton House, and the purchasing of the plants for the space. As I alluded to in the previous post, the planning-on-paper side of things was a pivotal part in getting the feel of…

HPH plant styling commission: Introduction

I‘ve been working on a project ‘offline’ for the last couple of months and am finally able to share what I have been up to! Earlier this year, I was asked to plant style a conservatory in a stately home, in order to bring some life back to the room. It had been left a…

How the UK fell back in love with the Swiss Cheese Plant

I wanted to discuss plant trends today, and more specifically how over the last three years, the UK has fallen back in love with the Swiss Cheese plant. As social media arguably encourages plant collectors to discover the rare and unique, there is a lot to be said about the humble plants that form the basis…

HPH Plant Styling: Neon Pothos

Today’s post is about plant styling my newest acquisition – the luminous neon pothos. A few months ago I’d got hold of a philodendron brasil and some of the beautiful foliage was almost entirely neon coloured. It’s still one of my favourites and just knew that a neon would also be well loved in my…

Come shopping with me: TIGER does gardening

This week has seen a gardening paraphernalia explosion at Flying Tiger stores as we gear up for Spring. Whilst being pretty well known for their kitsch home decor, some gems can definitely be found here. For example, the general purpose pots I bought at the end of last year were from here and they look…

 HPH styling with Terracotta

Today’s post is all about plant styling, more specifically, interior styling with terracotta. As I highlighted in my 2018 Trend Report, indoor use of terracotta is increasing in popularity once again, which I would cite as being related to the retro cool mid century modern aesthetic. Whilst the minimal ‘clean’ monochrome style of recent years…

HPH 2018 Trend Report / Part Two: Plant Trend Forecast

Today’s post is the second part of a two-part series that highlights some of the key trends that sit on the cusp between houseplants, interior styling and design for 2018. The previous post was concerned with interior plant styling, whereas this post focuses on a forecast of emerging plant trends. If you missed the introduction to this…

There’s a nanouk propagation update coming soon — I conducted a little plant experiment which I will put together in a post next week 😊 — I just need the sun to come back out so that I can shoot the update images! ☀️ 💕
Even though it’s got a bit spindly over winter, I love the way my begonia looks like a little leaning, polka dot sculpture 🪴 + there is also the cutest new growth popping up at the base (pic on stories)! After yesterdays post, a few of you wanted to have a better look at my #begoniamaculatawightii — so here it is! I propagated this in water + in a few weeks I will have a look at the roots to see if it needs repotting. Happy #begoniamonday ! ✨🌼
Today’s blogpost is all about low light tolerant houseplants, of which, these are a few… I couldn’t fit them all into the shot!
A closer look at my big peperomia hope — I’ve grown this from a small plant + it really enjoys this specific position — 1 metre away from a south-east window! This time of year I water it around once a month from the bottom using a drip tray + it’s been doing ok considering the low temperatures here. I’ve found that giving the top of the pot adequate light has really helped to keep my plant looking full — this winter I’ve also used a grow light on it which seems to have helped it along. 💚
The cutest iridescent leaf ☀️ 🍃✨#monsteramonday
Really can’t wait to go thrifting again. If you’ve been at HPH at while, or know me IRL you’ll know I love interior decor as much as houseplants! It’s been a weird year, being in a temporary place + not being able to express my style when my living space often feels like a houseplant storage area(!), but this photo reminds me of all the fun that goes into sourcing furniture pieces that have been in my collection for a long time now... 🪑🪴✨
I am a big fan of these trailing plants together — I think the leaves really complement each other! 💕🍃
I’ve had my RT for nearly a year now + in all honesty, it’s grown so well with quite a lot of neglect. Even though I put a U-shaped bamboo support in the pot, I have been enjoying just letting it do it’s thing — and I quite like it a little wild like this! ☺️🍃
