A HPH guide to low light tolerant houseplants

The most commonly asked customer question I’ve encountered since working with houseplants is without a doubt ‘…what plants are best for a place that doesn’t get a lot of light?!’. And it’s a good question. A question that I have been sorely reminded of this winter in this black hole of a cottage, whilst frantically…

A friendly reminder to clean your leaves

Today’s blogpost serves as a friendly reminder to clean the leaves on your houseplants. Every few months I like to share a post to this effect on my instagram as it’s a relatively mundane part of plant care that can sometimes be forgotten about, especially when it’s dark + grey outside! In this post I’ll…

So you’ve recently got into houseplants? My top 10 picks for a starter kit

Today’s post is actually one that has been on my ‘blogposts to write‘ lists for longer than I care to admit! It’s something I speak about in ‘real life’ quite a bit, but I figured it would make sense to compile a top 10 list of the things I recommend to new houseplant lovers —…

My houseplant potting mix

As I was doing a bit of last-minute repotting over the weekend before Autumn properly sets in, I thought I would turn the camera away from my plants for a minute + chat a little bit about the potting mix I tend to make up for my houseplants, because it’s a question I get asked…

Grow lights for happy houseplants

Without wanting to fully admit that Autumn is in the air, the drop in temperature of just a few degrees has already started to slow down growth on some of my houseplants. This led me to start doing a bit of searching online to find some grow lights to help keep my plants happy in…

How to feed your houseplants

I’ve just spent a few hours feeding my houseplants (a nice task for the weekend as Monty would say) and thought I would share some HPH tips I have picked up along the way.  The first time I remember being taught about plant feeding was sitting on a stool in my grandpa’s greenhouse as a…

Lets talk about : Plants and pests (II)

It’s about time to have another chat about the reality of keeping a houseplant collection… by that, I am referring to the arduous task of pest control. I got such a positive response about my first post on this topic I wrote in May, I wanted to follow it up with another as I’m currently…

Lets talk about: plants and pests

Let’s talk about one of the less glamorous sides of ‘houseplant care’ – pests. Unless you have been extremely lucky, you will probably have come across bugs in some form or another. The reality of keeping quite a lot of plants means this can be an issue sometimes. Things had been running pretty smoothly in…

Even though it’s got a bit spindly over winter, I love the way my begonia looks like a little leaning, polka dot sculpture 🪴 + there is also the cutest new growth popping up at the base (pic on stories)! After yesterdays post, a few of you wanted to have a better look at my #begoniamaculatawightii — so here it is! I propagated this in water + in a few weeks I will have a look at the roots to see if it needs repotting. Happy #begoniamonday ! ✨🌼
Today’s blogpost is all about low light tolerant houseplants, of which, these are a few… I couldn’t fit them all into the shot!
A closer look at my big peperomia hope — I’ve grown this from a small plant + it really enjoys this specific position — 1 metre away from a south-east window! This time of year I water it around once a month from the bottom using a drip tray + it’s been doing ok considering the low temperatures here. I’ve found that giving the top of the pot adequate light has really helped to keep my plant looking full — this winter I’ve also used a grow light on it which seems to have helped it along. 💚
The cutest iridescent leaf ☀️ 🍃✨#monsteramonday
Really can’t wait to go thrifting again. If you’ve been at HPH at while, or know me IRL you’ll know I love interior decor as much as houseplants! It’s been a weird year, being in a temporary place + not being able to express my style when my living space often feels like a houseplant storage area(!), but this photo reminds me of all the fun that goes into sourcing furniture pieces that have been in my collection for a long time now... 🪑🪴✨
I am a big fan of these trailing plants together — I think the leaves really complement each other! 💕🍃
I’ve had my RT for nearly a year now + in all honesty, it’s grown so well with quite a lot of neglect. Even though I put a U-shaped bamboo support in the pot, I have been enjoying just letting it do it’s thing — and I quite like it a little wild like this! ☺️🍃
#kalanchoeorgyalis taking centre stage. ✨
