Propagate with me: how to root snake plants, zz plants + tips for successful propagations

As much as I love my larger plants here at HOUSEPLANTHOUSE, houseplant propagation is a real hobby of mine. How to make a new tradescantia plant from cuttings

It’s that time of year again… last week I got my scissors out and cut back my tradescantia fluminensis tricolour entirely. My plant fared surprisingly well during the move but as Spring growth kicked in, my plant was looking a little… straggly. I think this is the third cycle of cutting I have done with…

How to propagate pilea babies

Today’s post is a reader request that concerns pilea babies – specifically, what to do with them when they start popping up from your ‘main’ mother plant. Propagating Saxifraga stolonifera

Something I’ve been thinking about recently is how my taste in plants has shifted and developed over the last few years, through owning a lot, selling plants for work and seeing plants on Instagram… all. the. time. This year, I would say that I have a newfound fascination with some plants that really didn’t bother…

Succulent propagation update

As I’ve been sorting my plants out for cooler weather, I thought I’d share an update with some of my succulent propagations that are dotted around my apartment. I seem to find leaves all over the place, and always still get a little excited when I spot roots or baby plants forming with absolutely no…

Plant swapping: plant mail is the best mail

Today we are talking plant swapping… because swapping isn’t technically buying more plants! If you’ve read my blog for a while, you’ll know about houseplantswap.com ; a site set up by my lovely friend Brad for our group ‘The Real Houseplants of Instagram’; to easily facilitate the swapping of plants for our plant community. But incase…

These #tradescantiafluminensistricolor cuttings have been in water longer than I care to admit, so it’s time to pot up! (I’ll show you later on stories)🪴💕 Today’s blogpost is an exciting one as it’s the first repotting diaries of the growing season — hooray! 🎉
You might remember these monstera adansonii stems I’ve been propagating... well today I potted up some of them up to make a new little plant! Not all of the stems have rooted yet (they can be very slow in cold weather!) but they haven’t rotted either so I’ll keep waiting to see if anything happens now that Spring is here!🤞🏻 #monsteramonday 🌱 🍃
If you need a little bit of direction or encouragement to get prepping your houseplants for Spring, today’s blogpost is for you! 🐣Writing this update post has really motivated me to get going with my Spring plant care — because this year more than ever, my plants could definitely do with some care and attention — it was a long winter!
My hanging plant gang are all lined up ready for a bit of a haircut! — 🍃💇🏻‍♀️
My begonia sisters in the 5pm golden light… the evenings are getting lighter at last! 🍃☀️
Happy #monsteramonday from me + my biggest plant! 👋🏻💚 My three monsteras are all in desperate need of a re-pot so I’m psyching myself up for this hefty task! (I’m planning on tackling it on the weekend...) Whilst it’s a big job to do them all in one session, I prefer to make up a big tub of my potting mix, put some music on, make a coffee...or three(!)+ slowly work through it. It’s been a long, cold winter here so it’s time to give these plants a bit of love + attention! 😊
Today’s blogpost is my top 10 hard-to-kill houseplants, some of which are in this photo! The plants I’ve featured are all ones I have had personal experience with growing for a number of years. I’ve chosen them based on their resilience + longevity in my home + they are also ones that I recommend to my customers or clients + often use when plant styling for new plant lovers💚
