Tradescantia nanouk: growth update, propagation + FAQ’s

If you follow my houseplanthouse page over on instagram, you might have seen how my tradescantia nanouk has flourished from a pretty tiny plant, through multiple re-pots, into something slightly out of control within the space of ten months or so! I can always tell when I’m captivated by a plant when I share it…

Plant Progress Report: Houseplants I’ve Enjoyed Growing in 2020

Winter has really kicked in now + the drop in temperatures, alongside endless grey skies + frankly pathetic light levels, got me thinking back to sunnier times. As we approach the end of the year, I thought it was a good time to share my reflections on the houseplants I’ve particularly enjoyed growing in 2020.…

Pothos varieties: identification guide + care tips

For today, I’ve written a bit of an update for one of my most popular blogposts — a look at the different pothos varieties + my top tips for keeping them looking their best (originally posted in March 2019). I’ve also updated the photos to show how my plants are looking right now in 2020.…

Keeping my Peperomia hope alive

As promised, this post is all about peperomia hope. I get a few questions on my plant whenever I share it on instagram, so thought it would be helpful to detail how I have been caring for my plant. This lovely cultivar is actually a hybrid between Peperomia deppeana + Peperomia quadrifolia. I actually have…

Tradescantia nanouk care guide

Let me introduce my tradescantia nanouk! I bought this incredibly pretty plant three months ago as a bit of a lockdown treat for myself + as a big fan of my other pink tradescantia — the fluminensis tricolour, I didn’t really know what to expect in comparison. I hadn’t seen a plant in real life…

Repotting diaries #2 : Herb garden edition + bulb delivery

After giving my balcony herb garden to my sister when I moved, I was missing my fragrant doorstep greenery that had taken up permanent residence in front of the battered french doors five years ago. They looked pretty unassuming (not really looking like they were growing much yet slowly but surely getting fuller) but definitely…

Monstera adansonii care tips

One plant in particular that is glad to see the arrival of Spring in my Monstera adansonii. Of course, I’m pretty sure all my houseplants are enjoying the beginnings of warmer temperatures but this plant really does not enjoy the cooler part of the year. I’ve had my adansonii for a few years now +…

There’s a nanouk propagation update coming soon — I conducted a little plant experiment which I will put together in a post next week 😊 — I just need the sun to come back out so that I can shoot the update images! ☀️ 💕
Even though it’s got a bit spindly over winter, I love the way my begonia looks like a little leaning, polka dot sculpture 🪴 + there is also the cutest new growth popping up at the base (pic on stories)! After yesterdays post, a few of you wanted to have a better look at my #begoniamaculatawightii — so here it is! I propagated this in water + in a few weeks I will have a look at the roots to see if it needs repotting. Happy #begoniamonday ! ✨🌼
Today’s blogpost is all about low light tolerant houseplants, of which, these are a few… I couldn’t fit them all into the shot!
A closer look at my big peperomia hope — I’ve grown this from a small plant + it really enjoys this specific position — 1 metre away from a south-east window! This time of year I water it around once a month from the bottom using a drip tray + it’s been doing ok considering the low temperatures here. I’ve found that giving the top of the pot adequate light has really helped to keep my plant looking full — this winter I’ve also used a grow light on it which seems to have helped it along. 💚
The cutest iridescent leaf ☀️ 🍃✨#monsteramonday
Really can’t wait to go thrifting again. If you’ve been at HPH at while, or know me IRL you’ll know I love interior decor as much as houseplants! It’s been a weird year, being in a temporary place + not being able to express my style when my living space often feels like a houseplant storage area(!), but this photo reminds me of all the fun that goes into sourcing furniture pieces that have been in my collection for a long time now... 🪑🪴✨
I am a big fan of these trailing plants together — I think the leaves really complement each other! 💕🍃
I’ve had my RT for nearly a year now + in all honesty, it’s grown so well with quite a lot of neglect. Even though I put a U-shaped bamboo support in the pot, I have been enjoying just letting it do it’s thing — and I quite like it a little wild like this! ☺️🍃
