On a weekend walk, as I approached the field it appeared as though it was moving + all of a sudden, a swarm emerged from the ground as speckles of ink against the blue Sunday sky. The swarm swirled upwards + flew right over my head, before twisting + shimmering in the sunlight — then swooping to ground level again. Starling murmurations have always fascinated me but I’d never witnessed this hypnotic show from such close proximity. I was transfixed for what must have been around 30 minutes before the birds moved further away. I’ve included the first + last videos I filmed on that day in this photo diary to share this experience in motion.
