Repotting Diaries #8 : Potting up some of my winter propagations + more!

Welcome back! Today’s post is the first Repotting Diaries of the growing season + of 2021 too. Repotting is an aspect of plant care I find really therapeutic + a process I sorely miss over the Winter months. During the colder part of the year I rarely carry out any repotting (unless there’s an emergency)…

Repotting diaries #7: sansevieria, golden pothos, zz raven, philodendron scandens, stromanthe + pilea

With Autumn well + truly here in the UK, my houseplants are getting ready for their winter rest. My focus this time of year is making sure my plants are in the best position possible to tackle the lower light levels + cooler temperatures (more on that in my ‘Getting your houseplants ready for Autumn’…

My houseplant potting mix

As I was doing a bit of last-minute repotting over the weekend before Autumn properly sets in, I thought I would turn the camera away from my plants for a minute + chat a little bit about the potting mix I tend to make up for my houseplants, because it’s a question I get asked…

Repotting diaries #6: hoya linearis, selenicereus chrysocardium, sansevieria, crassula marnieriana, SOH

It feels like a few weeks since I did any proper repotting here at HPH! As I’ve stressed in my other posts in this series, it’s good practice to only re-pot your houseplants when it really is needed + not just for the sake of it (or only for instagram photos!). Over the last few…

Q + A : Monstera care + repotting

Two weeks ago I asked on my instagram if you had any monstera repotting questions… + you certainly did! I planned on combining a few questions with my repotting post but there ended up being quite a few things you wanted to know! I’ll answer those queries here + show you my repotting process in…

Repotting diaries #5: marble queen, kentia palm, manjula, pilea, chlorophytum, silvery ann + n’joy

I thought I’d share my repotting from last weekend in this Repotting diaries… over the last few weeks I’d been aware that some of the plants in this post were needing watering more often (a tell-tale sign they might need a bigger pot) + when I checked, three of them were growing roots out of…

Repotting diaries #4: n’joy, silvery ann, pilea, fishbone cactus + zz plant

This week I’ve really been getting on top of my plant care + it feels good. I did a bit of a plant-pot-swap-around with some of my outdoor plants to free up some pots to use for this. I’m low on potting supplies so have just used what I’ve got for now… during this batch…

Repotting diaries #3 : manjula, maranta, dracaena + new plant purchases

In this repotting diaries I’m paying attention to my manjula pothos, maranta, some sansevieria/dracaena plants + at the end of the post, showing some of my newest houseplant purchases I posted on my instagram the other week. As I’ve said in the previous two posts in this series, these posts are intended to be short…

Repotting diaries #2 : Herb garden edition + bulb delivery

After giving my balcony herb garden to my sister when I moved, I was missing my fragrant doorstep greenery that had taken up permanent residence in front of the battered french doors five years ago. They looked pretty unassuming (not really looking like they were growing much yet slowly but surely getting fuller) but definitely…

Repotting guide / Repotting diaries #1

In addition to my longer-form plant care blogposts + ephemeral images I post here on HPH, I thought it would be a nice addition to share some more everyday planty jobs as I go about them, a bit of a ‘what’s on my potting table’ / repotting diary if you will. I’ll make it a…

These #tradescantiafluminensistricolor cuttings have been in water longer than I care to admit, so it’s time to pot up! (I’ll show you later on stories)🪴💕 Today’s blogpost is an exciting one as it’s the first repotting diaries of the growing season — hooray! 🎉
You might remember these monstera adansonii stems I’ve been propagating... well today I potted up some of them up to make a new little plant! Not all of the stems have rooted yet (they can be very slow in cold weather!) but they haven’t rotted either so I’ll keep waiting to see if anything happens now that Spring is here!🤞🏻 #monsteramonday 🌱 🍃
If you need a little bit of direction or encouragement to get prepping your houseplants for Spring, today’s blogpost is for you! 🐣Writing this update post has really motivated me to get going with my Spring plant care — because this year more than ever, my plants could definitely do with some care and attention — it was a long winter!
My hanging plant gang are all lined up ready for a bit of a haircut! — 🍃💇🏻‍♀️
My begonia sisters in the 5pm golden light… the evenings are getting lighter at last! 🍃☀️
Happy #monsteramonday from me + my biggest plant! 👋🏻💚 My three monsteras are all in desperate need of a re-pot so I’m psyching myself up for this hefty task! (I’m planning on tackling it on the weekend...) Whilst it’s a big job to do them all in one session, I prefer to make up a big tub of my potting mix, put some music on, make a coffee...or three(!)+ slowly work through it. It’s been a long, cold winter here so it’s time to give these plants a bit of love + attention! 😊
Today’s blogpost is my top 10 hard-to-kill houseplants, some of which are in this photo! The plants I’ve featured are all ones I have had personal experience with growing for a number of years. I’ve chosen them based on their resilience + longevity in my home + they are also ones that I recommend to my customers or clients + often use when plant styling for new plant lovers💚
